About Us

Neil McDevitt, MD

While he started as a general surgeon, Dr. Neil McDevitt chose to specialize in bariatric surgery because of the gratitude he received from his weight-loss patients, the happiness he found sharing in their victories, and th potential he saw for improving the quality of their lives. He believes in treating people, not medical problems, and prides himself on being accessible to his patients.

Before establishing his practice in Summerville, Dr. McDevitt served as Director of Bariatric Services for Beaufort Memorial Hospital. He is board-certified in general surgery and has performed weight-loss surgeries since 2004. He completed bariatric training at Emory University, and received certification from Allergan, the makers of the LAP-BAND gastric band.

Dr. McDevitt performed his residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College, where he also received honors as Magna Cum Laude.

Originally from a small town in New Jersey, he visited South Carolina's coast as he grew up and is glad that he and his wife now call the state home. He loves to fish, hunt, and kayak. He also joins "Team McDevitt" at occasional weekend road races and walks, but admits that he likes finishing a run more than starting one.

Meagan Smith, Office Supervisor

Ask Meagan anything, she will find the answers. She makes sure our office runs smoothly, while showing great kindness and compassion for those around her. Meagan joined HCA Physician Services after receiving her bachelor's degree in biology from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC in 2009.

Jane Wiltsie, Certified Medical Assistant

After earning her certification in 1993, Jane worked with a variety of specialties, including women's services, urgent care, and ear, nose, and throat. It is here though, that she has found her calling. Jane has personal expertise in gastric bypass, having undergone the surgery herself with much success, and can give patients first-hand answers to many of their questions.

Nicole Herndon, Bariatric Coordinator, RN

A registered nurse since 1999, Nicole has worked in both hospital and private practice settings, allowing her to guide patients smoothly through the different aspects of the bariatric surgery process. With her caring nature, she will support and reassure you during your journey.

Lauri Watson, Registered Dietician

Lauri joins us through Summerville Medical Center Food and Nurtrition Services. She has extensive experience in nutrition and has been essential in developing the center's holistic approach to weight loss. She will help you along the path to healthy eating for life.

Brittany Greene, Exercise Physiologist

Brittany will assess your physical capabilities adn design a "movement" plan for your success. She is a member of Summerville Medical Center's Cardiac Rehabilitation services, and we are glad to have her expertise...despite the fact she is a Florida "Gator”!
